New Trial Results Demonstrate Mode of Action, Plant Health Benefits of HYT A
DAVIS, Calif. (July 24, 2018)—Trials recently performed at Agrinos’ Global Biological Innovation Center in Davis, Calif., provide insight into the unique mode of action that enables HYT® A to support plant physiological systems and overall plant health.
HYT A is Agrinos’ soil-applied proprietary microbial liquid solution that promotes highly productive microbial communities in the soil to support plant health and yield. HYT A microbes interact within the rhizosphere to increase yield capacity by releasing sequestered nutrients in the soil and stimulating root growth for enhanced nutrient uptake.
Growth-Room Cucumber Plant Response to HYT A
A trial conducted with seedling cucumbers evaluated the effects of HYT A on both phosphorus and calcium shoot concentrations. Treatments used in this study were:
- Control with reduced soil soluble phosphorus application
- HYT A applied with reduced soil soluble phosphorus application
- Control with reduced soil soluble phosphorus application and an additional 135 kg of insoluble tricalcium phosphate ha-1f
- HYT A applied with reduced soil soluble phosphorus application and an additional 135 kg of insoluble tricalcium phosphate ha-1f
Plants were visually scored for shoot cell death and tissue samples were analyzed via inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectrometry when the cucumber plants reached 32 days of age. The analysis measured three plant shoot health parameters—cell death, phosphorus concentration and calcium concentration.
Trial Results
Cucumber plants that received HYT A and additional tricalcium phosphate were significantly healthier than the plants in the other three groups.
HYT A and tricalcium phosphate-treated plants had 30 percent greater (P<0.05) shoot phosphorus concentration than the standard control.
HYT A and tricalcium phosphate-treated plants had 37 percent greater (P<0.05) shoot calcium concentration than the standard control.
HYT A and tricalcium phosphate-treated plants had lower cell death than plants in each of the three other treatment groups.
“This trial adds even more depth to our scientific understanding and body of evidence surrounding the unique mode of action that fuels HYT A efficacy,” said Mylavarapu Venkatramesh, Agrinos vice president for research and development. “These results demonstrate that the microbes in HYT A are able to solubilize the P and Ca in insoluble tricalcium phosphate and deliver the nutrients to the roots in a highly bioavailable form.”
Plant productivity is increased with HYT A because nutrients become more bioavailable to crops.
“The microbial consortium in HYT A works to enhance nitrogen and sulfur metabolism, and increase salt tolerance, as well as increase the solubility of soil calcium, phosphorus, zinc and potassium,” said Venkatramesh. “HYT A also aids in iron mobilization while increasing plant cellular activity and soil chitinolytic activity.”
